Discover Fellows Lake Trail Race
If you haven’t experienced the Fellows Lake Trail System, this upcoming trail race is the perfect introduction. What began as a simple 2.5-mile out-and-back from the marina has grown into more than 25 miles of beautifully interconnected trails. Designed with runners and outdoor enthusiasts in mind, Fellows Lake delivers a one-of-a-kind trail running experience featuring scenic lake views, rolling terrain, and mature forest.
Whether you choose the 5-mile or 8-mile trail race distance, it’s easy to see why this trail system has become a local favorite.
The 5-Mile Course: Lakeside Miles & Gentle Rollers
The 5-mile course offers a scenic and approachable trail run, staying close to the water for much of the route. Runners can expect:
● Stunning views of Fellows Lake as the trail hugs the shoreline
● Gentle rolling hills that keep the run engaging without being overwhelming
● A mix of open, sun-exposed sections and long stretches shaded by full-grown trees
Underfoot, the terrain alternates between dirt and rock, making proper footwear essential. Trail running shoes are strongly recommended to maintain grip and stability, as road shoes simply won’t provide the traction needed on this surface.
The 8-Mile Course: Switchbacks, Bridges & Forest Adventure
The 8-mile course heads in the opposite direction from the dam and offers a more adventurous trail running experience. Right from the start, runners are treated to:
● Fun switchbacks and quick rollers leaving the dam area
● An open gravel section with small, gentle hills
● A short transition across the road bridge before returning to singletrack
From there, the course dives into a dense forest, featuring a playful switchback climb and a bridge crossing that adds to the trail-running charm. Runners should use caution in this section, as exposed bedrock can become slick if rain or snow is present.
Beyond this point, the trail continues toward the pavilion at Stick Dance, offering rolling hills, small switchbacks, and a true tree-covered adventure. In heavier wooded areas, leaves may still be present on the trail, making good traction especially important. As with the 5-mile route, trail shoes are a must due to the dirt-and-rock surface.
An Out-and-Back Trail Race Like No Other
Both courses feature an out-and-back format, giving runners the chance to experience the trail from both directions and fully appreciate the variety of terrain and scenery.
If you’re looking for a trail race that blends scenic lake views, forested singletrack, and thoughtfully designed trails, the Fellows Lake Trail Race delivers. Come experience this one-of-a-kind event—and don’t be surprised if you fall in love with the Fellows Lake Trail System along the way.
