Sponsored by Commercial Metals of Springfield, the CMC Recycling 5K (3.1 miles) is great for runners and walkers who want to have fun while achieving their fitness goals. This is the perfect race to do with family and friends!  Strollers are allowed on the 5K course but must start at the back of the startline. 

The CMC 5K shares the last several miles of the Bass Pro Conservation Marathon and the Cohick Half Marathon routes. Participants in the CMC Recycling 5K will complete their race before most of the half marathoners enter this part of the course. The route starts in front of Bass Pro Shops and takes participants through the neighborhoods behind Bass Pro.  Participants will finish in front of the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium.

A great finish line waits for all 5K finishers, along with a medal to celebrate your accomplishment!

Packet pick up takes places during our 2024 Marathon Weekend Expo! There will be approximately 50 vendors with us for the weekend, so plan to take a few minutes to walk through and get some good information.  For a full list of vendors, visit the Marathon Weekend Expo page!

Amenities

Each participant will receive a race shirt with the purchase of a registration. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your request, but sizes cannot be guaranteed. Those who register early will have the greatest success in getting the size they request and late registrants are not guaranteed a shirt. NO EXCHANGES of shirts will be allowed until Sunday after the events are complete.

Finishers will receive a 5K medal to commemorate their achievement as well as a great finish line!

Parking

Arrive early for best parking.  There will be spaces on the Bass Pro store property as well as all around the area.

Gear Check

Race day bag check will be available for all races. Participants must use clear bags and must allow visibility of the contents in the bag. Place your warm-up clothes in your bag, attach your gear check number and drop your bag with our volunteers located at the start of the race, just outside the Tracker doors in the front of Bass Pro Shops. You will see a Toyota vehicle in this location; bags will be transported via our sponsor, Toyota.  Gear pick up is located next to the finish line.  All bags will be checked by our city bomb squad.

Start Line

The CMC 5K starts at 7:15 AM, at the front of the Bass Pro Shops store on Sunshine and Campbell.  The marathon, half and relay start at 7 AM; 5K runners should line up directly behind this group.  All participants should be at their start by 6:45 AM.

Finish Line

All races finish in front of the Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium and the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center on Sunshine Street.

Aid Stations

The CMC 5K will host one aid station at approximately mile two. Porta-Potties will be located near this aid station.

Medical & Emergency Support Services

Mercy Health System is the medical provider for all of our Fitness Series events.  Our Medical Director is Dr. Landon Hough, Mercy Sports Medicine physician. Dr. Hough and his team of physicians, athletic trainers and EMS services will provide medical care for our participants.

Time Limit Rules

All events use the 5K route as they make their way to the finish line.  As a result, 5K participants have until 1:30 PM to complete their distance.

Award Information

Cash prizes are all given to the top three male/female finishers as well as the top masters male and female finishers. The prizes are as follows:

First Place: $300
Second Place: $150
Third Place: $75
First Place Masters: $75

We will be handing out Overall Awards at our awards ceremony close to 8:30 AM. If you won an age group award, we will write you name on it and have it available for you to pick up at a specific time and place that will be emailed post event. Runners are not able to win more than one award. If you win an overall award, you will not win an age group award.

If you are a high school athlete between the ages of 16-18 years old, you may not be eligible for cash prizes.
